The words for "fire" in Southern Uto-Aztecan languages are generally derived from the same UA root *tahi (Stubbs 2011#??).

In Tara-Guarijío the root *tahi seems to have come to mean "light" e.g. Raramuri raósári "luz" (Brambila 1976:345)), the root *naʔí replacing it in the sense "fire".
