Southern Uto-Aztecan words for "Dog" are built on two main roots *tsu "dog" and *tsi "puppy", these re combined with other roots in the individual languages. It is interesting that Totonacan and Mayan also have roots with *tsi for "dog", but this seems to be an ancient Wanderwort.

Nahuan:
itskʷin < *tsɨkɨi-mɨ < *tsu-kui
chichi < *tsitsi (or from *tsutsi "puppy-dog")
Corachol:
Wixárika
  • tsɨkɨ "dog"
  • tsinu "puppy" < *tsi + nu "baby"
Náayeri
tsɨ(-kɨ) < PCN *tsɨkɨi
