The Southern Uto-Aztecan root *tawe "sun", has a wide range of reflexes.

- tlawilli "light, dawn"
- tlawiskalpan "dawn house" (mythological location in the eastern ocean), Tlawiskalpantekʷtli "dawn lord" (morning star deity)
